Forgotten Lore "Glittering Darkness"

Forgotten Lore hail from Italy and have been around since 2000. This CD was recorded in three days and released last year.

The band's website says they're planning to record another CD at some point in the future.

This one is an intense mix of thrash, black and death metal with maniacal shrieks from vocalist Oblivion.

The band call their style "gothic black metal" but there's not much goth in it; I believe what the band meant by "gothic black metal" is the kind of feeling you get from listening to old Black Sabbath and Mercyful Fate albums.

"Evil," "Ice Storm" and "Epitaph" open with somber intros played with acoustic guitars.

The most profound of these is at the beginning of the first song.

Once these introductions establish the proper mood, the riffs that follow arrive in an explosion of raw energy where you can pick up how much energy the band is channeling into their music.
